Armigerous vs. Nonarmigerous
Awards
An armigerious scroll is
one that has prominent armory/heraldry. It will:
- go through the Heralds' office
(Black Lion will check to see that both the emblazon and blazon are correctly
portrayed and that the name the device is registered to is used on the scroll)
for approval. If it is approved Black Lion will then sign it and seal it with
the herald's seal.
- need to be registered (the recipient's
arms)
- need the spelling of the name
and blazon correct in the scroll
- need to have a place for the
herald to sign and a 2" diameter space for the heralds' seal.
A nonarmigerous scroll must:
- not have prominent armory (the
shield is not the focus or even a major part of the art)
- not have blazon in the text (no
heraldic description is included)
- not have place for the herald's
seal and signature.
Use of the Kingdom arms on a scroll
is limited. It is reserved for those scrolls which are done as medieval "grant
or patent" style documents. If used, the Kingdom's device must be portrayed
smaller than the device of the recipient. If you have any questions about this
please contact the Kingdom Scribe or Black Lion.
Achievements with helm: Anyone
of AoA or Grant rank is entitled to use a black or dark grey coloured helm unless
other achievements are indicated for their award. A silver helm is reserved
for the three polling peerages and viscounty, silver with gold trim for county,
and gold for ducal, no matter who actually won the throne. For further information
about heraldic achievements in An Tir see this
page.
Anyone unsure of this information
is encouraged to contact the Scribe's or Herald's office.
