THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SCROLLS & CHARTERS

Charters are given by the crown at the time of the award (usually). They are preprinted at a press with calligraphy and a basic design shape. The illuminator fills in the design with paint. They are preset designs chosen by the king and queen and usually reflect their reign (country, time period).

Scrolls are for any award from an AA to a peerage scroll. They are done on longer lasting archival papers, like watercolor papers. They are calligraphed, drawn and illuminated by the scribe. They have the arms of the particular person, plus are usually done in their period and country style (more or less). They are personal and the scribe communicates with the recipient on what they want. The recipient can also pay for special elements since the scribes often do this out of pocket.

Signatures & Seals: When you receive a scroll or a charter it is signed by the king & queen (or prince & princess in some cases) and sealed with the kingdom (or principality) seal. It is the duty of Sable Sable to acquire the seals and signatures for any scroll/charter that is delivered after a Reign and the applicable Royal Scribe for any Scroll delivered for a current Reign. If the scroll has heraldry on it (your arms), then it is also signed by Black Lion and has a herald's seal.
